Miscarry
In this fullness of blissful excitement, survival mechanisms become relaxed. Wisdom whispers warrants to stay present (in the moment) because moments are fleeting, but what good is wisdom’s warning when moments we wish would vanish… persist?
In Maxwell’s cover of “This Woman’s Work” by Kate Bush, the melody sways… caressing emotions like silk to skin as he sorts through crisis; as he sorts through loss. And through all of the could’ve, should’ve, would’ve(s)… he says, “I should be hoping, but I can’t stop thinking.”
At the halfway point of the calendar year, many have endured miscarriages (misfires, mistakes, missteps), but wisdom is tried and true. Success truly rests in the ability to revere the potency of every moment… moment by moment.
In the climax of fulfillment (personal or professional) and in the depths of disappointment, we have a duty to stay present. Character development cannot be paid for in cash, there are some things that cost us tears. We cannot inherit courage, sometimes a gut punch steals what we were developing and it takes our breath away. In nocturnal numbness does one come to appreciate the dance of day.
Count up the cost of what you know you’re deserving of. Reconfigure the numbers for what it takes to make your vision come to fruition. Hope and hope some more (because thinking (especially overthinking) yields stagnation cloaked in performative preparation). There is no such this as “ready”!
Failure isn’t final… jump again, I’m sure you’ll fly.
xx,
